Dave
Boyd
Dave
started teaching himself to play guitar in the spring
of 1971, his junior year in high school. He started writing
gospel songs about a year later. He played in several
contemporary Christian bands (sort of rock-n-roll in those
days) and did some solo stuff over the next dozen years
or so. He married his wife, Sharon, in 1976. Twenty-eight
plus years later they are still together. After struggling
to get something going musically, he finally thought he
was through performing music in 1984. Over the next 14
years his musical taste underwent some changes. He credits
the Flying W Wranglers for getting him hooked on western
music. Some of his best older gospel tunes do not sound
out of place in cowboy church services for which he provides
the music. He performs traditional and original western
music, as well as traditional hymns and original gospel
tunes done in his own unique style. It’s like he
finally found the music venue where he belongs.
Over
the last few years he has been working on learning to
play banjo, mandolin, bass fiddle and fiddle, in addition
to the guitar. He has played all of these instruments
on his recording projects and with several bands he was
a member of the last few years. He is currently mostly
pursuing a solo career.
In
June of 2004 he won the AWA – Heartland Chapter’s
2004 Horizon Award for music.
He
is currently a member of the following organizations:

What folks are saying about Dave’s music:
"Dave Boyd is not only a great singer/songwriter whose Western music (not to be confused with Country/Western) is among the best you can find… If you love Western Music and want to hear some of the real stuff, give this one a listen."
Smith N’ Jones, Product Reviews, July/August issue of "SHOOT!" Magazine
"My favorite songs from the ‘New Horizons’ CD ‘Jesus Broke the Wild Horse in My Heart,’ ‘Promises’ and ‘New Horizons.’ The whole CD reminds me of the Sons of the Pioneers."
Duane Zimmerman, Topeka, KS
"…(Colorado Wranglers) collaboration with Dave Boyd on his new CD, ‘New Horizons,’ recorded early in 2006. Not only do they back Dave with their instruments, and give counsel on the production end, but they do a few harmony vocals as well. For me, those harmonies are among the album’s highlights. Dave made a wise choice in getting these boys to collaborate with him…"
O.J. Sikes, "Reviews," Summer, 2006 issue of "Western Way"
"Boyd not only has learned the standard western music repertoire but also has contributed to it with his own tunes, some of which are on a new CD, ‘New Horizons.’"
Bill Blankenship, Entertainment Editor, The Topeka Capital-Journal, June 16,2006 |
